John Wick: Chapter 3-Parabellum Meg A Review

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane & Laurence Fishburne

The first action movie to hit theaters to rival Avengers: Endgame. By now, hopefully most fans have seen Avengers: Endgame and are ready for another action flick to see in theaters. Well John Wick Chapter 3 has everything they are looking for!

I still remember seeing the first John Wick in this series of ruthless killing movies and being surprised and loving just about every minute of it. For me, the sequel in this trio didn’t hold up to the first movie. I have found that most sequels don’t do as well as the first. However, the third movie had a better story-line—pretty simple! John Wick has broken the rules of the High Table by killing a member of the High Table on peaceful ground. Wick has been excommunicado with a bounty on his head of $14 million, and with every assassin nearby gunning to take him out.

The film picks up exactly where the second film left off. John has been excommunicado, and has begun running and fighting for his life. Assassins are at every corner vying for a chance to take him out for the huge bounty on his head. You can feel the pressure he is under with the relentless attackers coming at him any chance they get. As the story moves along after a few dozen perfectly choreographed fight scenes, the audience learns a little more about our favorite super-assassin. With nowhere left to turn John turns to his Russian past to cash in on a debt that is owed to him. The audience isn’t told his full background, but we can gather that he was a Russian orphan that rose from a not so easy life.

John is granted transportation to Casablanca and there he runs into a former fellow assassin, Sofia (Halle Berry). Sofia gives us the woman assassin Wick has been missing! She fights alongside him, and holds up her own. This was my favorite part of the film because Sofia also had two highly trained German Shepherds to assist in the fighting. Seeing German Shepherds taking out bad guys brought this movie up a level. Huge dog fan over here in case you couldn’t tell! Which is part of the reason I loved the first John Wick movie, since he was on revenge for the death of his puppy (the last gift from his dead wife).

Not only is John having to fight off assassins from the High Table, but all those that abetted him in the last film as well as this one are going to have to pay the price. The Adjudicator from the High Table is making sure that anyone that aided John will either step down from power or compensate in blood. It’s this string of events that makes several enemies for John and for the High Table. There is no simple ending for this chapter, and I believe we have more chapters of John Wick in store for us.

Chapter 3 had a few twists throughout the story along with tons of awesome and a little gruesome fighting scene. As a John Wick fan this movie is everything, you’re expecting it to be, and will leave the theater very satisfied.
