The series premiere of The Act begins on Wednesday March 20, 2019.

The series is a based on a true-life crime about Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her controlling mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Google the term ‘munchausen syndrome by proxy’, and pictures of this mother and daughter duo will pop up! When you combine years of abuse and a disturbed online boyfriend the result is a horrific murder case.
I’ve been anticipating HULU’s spin on the real story, and what they think could have happened between Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee prior to the gruesome murder. The series stars Joey King as Gypsy Rose and Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee Blanchard. Patricia Arquette has won three awards this year already for her work in Escape at Dannemora. Most people know Joey King from The Conjuring or more recently from The Kissing Booth on Netflix. She even went as far as to shave her head for the role!
If you’re interested in seeing the original people of this dark tale, I would recommend checking out Mommy Dead Dearest on HBO. The documentary shows the events after the homicide, and interviews the people closest to Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee. I watched this documentary with my mouth open and my eyes wide, as I could not grasp the level of manipulation Dee Dee had over her daughter. I’m curious to see how the documentary and the series compare to one another. I’m hoping the series will take you on an emotional roller coaster because the documentary was gut wrenching.
Looking forward to the series release and seeing these two talented actresses on screen together. Even if that screen is in my living room! Check out The Act on Hulu March 20!
